Pray Human Trafficking and modern-day slavery is a very big issue. It can often seem overwhelming. Something that is very comforting, is that God is powerful and he can do anything! The most important thing you can do to act against slavery, is pray!Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.-Philippians 4:6WHAT YOU CAN DO...1- Pray individually about the issue of slavery and human trafficking. You could sign up for an e-newsletter or read the website for one of the organisations mentioned, and pray for what they are doing2- Start up a prayer group that meets weekly, fortnightly or monthly, and pray for those in need3- Bring up the issue of slavery and human trafficking at a prayer group or meeting that already exists.

Give a voice to the voiceless! Your voice is an amazing tool for ending injustice. Slaves dont have a voice. We are so fortunate to have a voice in Australia. We are encouraged to speak up in this country. So, use your voice to help free those in slavery!Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.- Proverbs 31:8-9WHAT YOU CAN DO...1- Use your leadership positions. For example, if you are on the SRC at your school, use that position to ask the school to use fair trade uniforms.2- Write to or visit politicians, asking them to represent you in Parliament House, supporting certain policies, which will benefit those in need. Fill out the contact form if you would like to know what to contact them about.3- Write to companies, asking them to be ethical. 4- Ask retailers to stock ethically certified products, which do not support slavery.

Awareness is extremely important. Today, there is more slavery than ever before in the worlds history. One of the main reasons slavery thrives, is because it is secret. It is very different to the slavery, which has happened in the past. In the past, slavery was visible and a normal part of society, but today slavery is hidden, and occurs behind dark shadows. It is vitally important that peopleknow about slavery. People will not do anything to help stop slavery, if they dont know it exists! And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.-Micah 6:8WHAT YOU CAN DO...1- Tell your friends and family about modern-day slavery! Make sure you know some facts, and tell people! You can start with, Did you know that there is more slavery today, than ever before in history?2- Wear merchandise that promotes action against slavery. Wear T-Shirts, jewellery, wrist bands etc. which raise awareness of the issue of slavery3- Give out brochures. You could just give a few out to people you know, or hand them out at events, school or church. You can make your own or use one from an anti-slavery organisation.4- Put posters up! In your house, at school, at church, at work anywhere! Either make your own or use one from an anti-slavery resource.5- Speak at an assembly or at church, or even just show a DVD.6- Run an event or a stall at an event. Put up some posters and set up some brochures at an event already happening, or run your own event! This could be a Fair Trade supper, an Ethical Afternoon Tea, A movie night (screening a movie about modern-day slavery), and the list goes on!

Many of our everyday products, support modern-day slavery. Children and slaves are picking cocoa beans to make our chocolate, coffee beans to make our coffee, cotton to make our clothes. When you consume, make sure you are supporting human rights. Your money is your vote!

Blessed are they who maintain justice, who constantly do what is right.

WHAT YOU CAN DO...

1- Small step: Buy something fair trade. Eg. Buy a fair trade coffee or chocolate

2- Bigger step: swap something. Eg. Swap all the coffee you consume, to fair trade coffee.

3- Step by step, try to consume more ethically.

your time, money, encouragement and resources.

WHAT YOU CAN DO...

Give your money to an anti-slavery organisation...

1- Get a jar or box for spare change. With permission, put it in your room, your house, school, work, church! Donate the money to an anti-slavery organisation

2- Run a fair trade fundraiser, or just any fundraiser!

3- Sponsor an at-risk child!

Introducing... Diane and Aure

Hello! We are Aure and Di, a twenty- something married couple. Aure is French, likes I.T. and has a cool accent. Di enjoys vegemite on toast and loves poetry. There are some really simple ways to act against human slavery. We do so primarily by buying fairtrade tea, coffee and chocolate, and by asking local café owners to switch to ethical coffee. Aure sometimes writes on the Facebook pages of chocolate companies asking them to use fairtrade certified cocoa. We sign things like the cocoa petition and get involved with great campaigns like Fair Trade Fortnight.
